Ray of Hope award honors those contributing to Sylvania’s quality of life

TakeAdVantageFINALThe annual Sylvania Area Family Services’ Ray of Hope Awards reception and dinner was held Wednesday, Oct. 26. Sylvania Area Family Services Inc. annually recognizes outstanding individuals, organizations and businesses that significantly contribute to the quality of life in greater Sylvania.

Individuals, organizations and businesses selected to be honored included: Sylvania Community Arts Commission, Arts and Sciences; Toledo Memorial Park & Monument, Business and Industry; Jane Larsen, Community Leader; Designetics Foundation, Community Organization; Do-It Group, Community Service; and Sister Barb Vano, OCF, Education.

Claire Kohler was given the Youth Services award. This inaugural award recognizes the hours of community service that ‘tweens and teens have contributed to SAFS programs and services, including Elementary Einsteins summer enrichment camp and afterschool program, the community garden, and the food pantry as well as many other worthwhile Sylvania-area organizations and agencies.

Former SAFS board member Dr. Milo Danzeisen, a retired dentist, was given a special emeritus award as Friend of SAFS. Dr. Danzeisen is past president of the Toledo Dental Society and a recipient of the Bach Memorial Award for his contributions to the community and dental profession. Dr. Danzeisen is a past president of the Sylvania Chamber of Commerce and once served as chairman of the Lourdes University board of trustees.

The dinner fundraiser and awards ceremony was held in the main event hall at Sylvania Area Family Services, 5440 Marshall Rd. ProMedica Health System was the presenting sponsor.
