The Sylvania Franciscan Village reminds the public about the lecture series by Fr. Jim Bacik, “Bridging our Polarized Divisions: Drawing on Christian Wisdom.” Lectures in this series focus on bridging the various divisions that threaten society today by retrieving relevant insights from the Christian tradition. The lectures will deal with various divides, including gender, religion, politics, economics and race.

The series began with “Bridging the Gender Divide: Christian Perspectives” on Aug. 9. Fr. Bacik offered an examination of the history of sexism in the United States, the current “Me Too” movement and the role religion plays in gender relationships.

The next lecture in the series is “Bridging the Religious Divide: Christian Perspectives” on Thursday, Sept. 13. Fr. Bacik will offer an examination of what divides the Catholic community, the larger Christian world and the monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. How can we promote and improve ecumenical and interfaith dialogue?

Additional lectures this fall include “Bridging the Political Divide: Christian Perspectives” on Thursday, Oct. 11 and “Bridging the Economic Divide: Christian Perspectives” on Thursday, Nov. 8.

All lectures are held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Franciscan Center, 6832 Convent Blvd., in Sylvania. Tickets: $10 reserved; $15 at the door. For more information or to reserve tickets, contact Laurie Bertke at lbertke@sistersosf.org or 419-824-3515. Tickets may also be purchased online at sylvaniafranciscanvillage.org.
