Lourdes board members named

Two new members have been appointed to the Lourdes University Board of Trustees: James R. Gant and Richard S. Sweeney. “Lourdes is pleased to welcome James Gant and Richard Sweeney to our Board of Trustees. We know the university will benefit from the expertise they bring in education, business, technology, and the legal industries,” said Lourdes President Dr. MaryAnn Gawelek.

James Gant

James R. Gant, Esq. is the Deputy Superintendent for Toledo Public Schools. He assumed this position in 2018 and provides leadership support to the Superintendent, is the liaison for the Board of Education, oversees daily operations and manages upper level directors. Gant is a graduate of the University of Toledo where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations, with a minor in Japanese. During his time at UT, he played varsity football for the Rockets. Before working for Toledo Public Schools, Gant began his professional career as an attorney working for several local firms and eventually becoming the Chief of Labor and Employment for the city of Toledo.

Richard S. Sweeney

Richard S. Sweeney is the regional president of Toledo Edison, a FirstEnergy electric utility. Sweeney joined the company’s Information Technology Department in 1999 as a programmer analyst. After serving in various management positions he moved to Ohio Edison’s Operations Support department and he was named director in 2011. A graduate of Kent State University, Sweeney earned a bachelor of arts, a master’s degree in German and a Master of Business Administration degree in finance.
