The New and Improved Bing Search Engine

The Mouse Trap

Have you heard about AI, also known as Artificial Intelligence? This new computer application is not a movie or an elaborate internet game. Bing has been reconfigured to present a totally different search engine and it is a product of Microsoft. I am sure it is the beginning of many more competitors, like Google’s Bard.

It’s hard to imagine, but Microsoft and its researchers have gathered words, phrases, ideas and thoughts from the entire internet. The database of trivia is immense and growing.

It couldn’t be easier to try the new Bing: just go to Bing.com using a desktop browser. Immediately, you’ll see the newly expanded search box that lets you enter queries up to 1,000 characters long. Beneath it, you will find several examples to try with just one click. You can ask it something like, “I need to throw a dinner party for six people who are vegetarians. Can you suggest a three-course menu with a chocolate dessert?” In addition to showing you relevant, ordinary search results, you will often get a personalized response from Bing Chat that can help you research, plan, ideate, and even create brand-new content.

As I wrote this article, I decided to type in a query, or simple question, and see what result I would get. “Write a poem about Sylvania, Ohio and the wonderful people who call this home,” I asked. This is what AI created:

Sylvania, OH
A place where people go
To live and to grow
And to enjoy the snow
The people are kind
And they’re always on your mind
They’re friendly and warm
And they’ll never do you harm
The streets are clean
And the air is fresh and serene
The trees are tall
And they’ll never let you fall
Sylvania, OH
A place where people go
To live and to grow
And to enjoy the snow

Here’s another example: “What is the best city to retire in America?” The response was, “According to US News & World Report, Lancaster, Penn. ranks as the best place to retire in the U.S. thanks to a high quality of life, a reasonable cost of living and proximity to health care options.”

This Bing Search Engine is free and available to anyone. May I suggest going through Microsoft Edge and typing in Bing.com. This is a one-stop search and is ready for use. Have fun. I can see kids doing homework using this tool but that might not be the greatest idea.
