Kingston of Sylvania offers Independent Living

Active older adults are finding that the independent living option at Kingston offers a wide variety of activity choices, along with health care options.

There is a new option for independent living which recently became available at Kingston Residence of Sylvania. Residents in Kingston’s independent living will be able to stay in the same apartment throughout their time at Kingston if they choose to. They will find resort-like amenities, enjoy freedom from household maintenance and lawn care along with having the peace of mind of having accessible health care. “You can have the perfect blend of freedom, security, comfort, and community,” noted Community Relations Specialist Emily Roach.

Potential residents can choose from pet-friendly studios, or one- and two-bedroom apartments. “This program is particularly attractive for couples when one person needs assisted living care. The two can move in together, with the one taking advantage of the significantly lower independent living rate,” Roach said. “As we offer 24-hour nursing service in our facility, those living independently do have access to this service if they are ill or have an emergency. They do not have to call 9-1-1,” Roach stated. “And, as needs change over time, our continuum of care is designed so an independent living resident can easily transition to the appropriate level of care without needing to move.”
As laundry and housekeeping services are provided, the independent living option is ideal for those who are looking for maintenance-free living. They can choose to focus on fun experiences, hobbies, and friends, rather than spending time on home and yard maintenance.
Residents have many opportunities to experience activities, clubs, and events of their choosing. “When residents engage in activities and connect with others they find fulfillment, which promotes overall happiness and well-being,” Roach said. Activities are planned daily and multiple outings are scheduled as determined by the resident council. There are shopping excursions, trips to the Toledo Museum of Art, and much more. For those who are looking to volunteer their time and talent, information about opportunities within Kingston and in the community are easily obtained. In addition, residents can have transportation to medical appointments. “There is always something going on,” Roach noted.

In keeping with the resort-like environment, residents have reserved parking spots. Kingston offers a valet service, which cleans snow from individual’s vehicles and brings the automobile to the front entrance in inclement weather.
There is also a beauty salon and a barber shop on site for the convenience of residents.
Chefs Kevin McPartland and Darrin Elders prepare three nutritious meals daily. Breakfast is made to order. Lunch features a soup-of-the-day, salad-of-the-week, hot entrees, and sandwich choices. Multiple entree choices are on the dinner menu. The chefs encourage residents to submit their own recipes, as they love to prepare and feature them at the appropriate meal. Dining is also available for families and guests of residents along with facilities for private events.
Guests have 24-hour, seven-days-a-week access to come and go; however, all entrances are secure.
“This new independent living program rounds out our portfolio of services,” Roach summarized. “People can locate to our independent living facility with the security of knowing that as their needs change, they can stay in the same apartment.”
Kingston Residence of Sylvania now offers Independent Living, multiple levels of Assisted Living and Memory Care.
