Just in time for holiday gift giving, the Blumensaadt family, owners of Orchard Bar and Table restaurant and Orchard Farm Stand on Catawba Island, have released a cookbook, Christmas at the Orchard. The book celebrates the family’s love for entertaining and hospitality as well as their culinary legacy which began with patriarch, Axel Blumensaadt. Axel shared his cooking skills as a chef in some of Europe’s finest restaurants and with his family in their Denmark home.

The festive cookbook features 12 recipes, some of which are served at the restaurant and others that have been passed down through generations, including Grandma Dorothy’s Molasses Cookies, Orchard Clam Chowder and Henny B’s Roasted Beet Salad. “We’ve talked about a cookbook for years, so we decided to do a small version to see how it would go,” said Bill Blumensaadt.
Many of the ingredients in the recipes can be found at Orchard Farm Stand, adjacent to the restaurant. Visitors to the stand will find a unique selection of local produce, honey, jams and jellies, coffee, wine, baked goods, kitchen items, gifts, home décor and more.
A portion of the proceeds from book sales will be donated to Bistro 163, a non-profit restaurant in Port Clinton that provides free meals to those in need.

Cookbooks are $29.95 and can be purchased at Orchard Farm Stand, 3350 N.E. Catawba Rd., or orders may be placed over the phone at 419-573-6003.
