The Sylvania Lions Club along with the Sight Center of Northwest Ohio will once again be hosting a Drive-in Designer Purse Bingo on Sept. 15.

In 2019, the event was held at the Elks Club in Sylvania for a sold-out crowd of over 250 guests. During the pandemic, Lions Club members contemplated a place where guests could roam in a socially distanced environment in 2020 and were unable to find something that met their needs. The planners thought outside the box, which led to participants being safely inside their cars at the Sundance Kid Drive-in, 4500 Navarre Ave. in Oregon, Ohio. The event was such a success that the organizations decided to continue using the same venue in 2021 and again for this year’s function.

Guests are encouraged to get creative. A prize will be awarded for best vehicle display and setup.

This year guests will be playing 16 games of Bingo and winners will receive a designer purse. If there is more than one winning Bingo card, the other winners get placed into a Lucky Loser drawing for a designer purse at the end of the evening. Designer handbags, including ones from Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, COACH, Cole Haan and Dooney & Burke, are up for grabs. Admission includes a free dauber, a box of popcorn per person at the concession stand and three chances for intermission coverall games. A cash and credit card concession stand will also be open throughout the event.

Sylvania Lions Club member and co-chair Jan Tidd is excited about this year’s event. “This fundraiser is our largest for the year and supports the many projects of the Sylvania Lions. These include our yearly dinner for the visually impaired, scholarships for Sylvania students and community projects such as our Lions drinking fountains,” she stated. President of the Sylvania Lions, Carol Collins, hopes the community will support this event that will make a positive impact on the community. She said, “We are so grateful for the Sylvania community supporting our fourth event. Our motto is ‘We Serve.’ This event allows the Lions to serve our schools and community groups. I hope people come out for a fun night and a chance to win a purse.”

Admission is a donation of $40 per person before the event and $50 (cash only) the night of the event. The event will benefit the Sylvania Lions Club and the Sight Center of Northwest Ohio. Photos of purses, raffle baskets and rules will be distributed to guests upon arrival. Gates open at 4:45 pm and the Bingo fun begins promptly at 6:30 pm.
