Public meeting held for roundabout

The city of Sylvania’s Safety and Service Director Joe Shaw and members of the Tetra Tech lead design team hosted an Aug. 6 public meeting to present information, design options, and gather input from citizens regarding the Erie and Monroe streets roundabout scheduled to be constructed in 2027.
The purpose of the roundabout is to provide traffic calming and reduced speeds in the eastbound direction while at the same time providing better operations and reduced congestion for the westbound direction during the afternoon peak hour commute. Work includes removing the two traffic lights on Erie Street and converting the intersection into a single-lane roundabout.
Two options were presented with Option 1 resembling a bowtie configuration, which will provide full access for San Reno Drive. Option 2 is a standard roundabout and includes a center median on Erie Street at San Reno Drive which would reduce access to a right-in, right-out configuration.
In addition, Erie Street will be resurfaced from Centennial Road to Monroe Street. Roundabout construction would require an intersection closure from 45 to 60 days with the remainder of the resurfacing work being performed while maintaining traffic.
Comments about the project may be emailed to Joe Shaw at jshaw@cityofsylvania.com by Sept. 5.
