Metroparks Toledo’s Chief External Relations Officer, Matt Killam, made a presentation regarding Metroparks Toledo at the April 7 Sylvania City Council meeting, requesting members to consider endorsing the organization’s replacement levy to be on the May 6 ballot. The matter will be voted on at the April 21 meeting.
Sylvania City Council members authorized Mayor Mark Frye and Finance Director Toby Schroyer to enter a three-year collective bargaining agreement with the Fraternal Order of Police on behalf of Sylvania Police clerks.
Council members approved Sylvania Service Director Joe Shaw’s recommendation to accept the $69,743 bid submitted by Freedom Roofing, Windows, and Siding LLC to replace the roofs on the three city of Sylvania pumping stations. Those stations are located on Maplewood Avenue, Monroe Street, and Main Street at Brint Road.
Council also approved Shaw’s recommendation to amend the agreement with Fishback to provide additional professional engineering services for Phase 3 of the Elden Ditch Watershed improvements at a cost of $4,378.
Council members referred a request for a Special Use Permit to the Planning Commission for a change from an existing restaurant space zoned B-4 to Crossview Community Church zoned B-4 with special use for the property at 5834 Monroe St.
New notification system
In other business, council members authorized Mayor Frye and Finance Director Schroyer to enter into a continuing agreement with the Lucas County Alerts system. The provider of the system has changed from WENS (Wireless Emergency Notification System) to Everbridge, with the city’s anticipated cost to be $3,200 per year.
According to Sylvania Police Chief Dannilynn Miller, residents with cell phones with text messaging capability can sign up for alerts such as emergency or weather warnings to be sent to the phone numbers provided. Participants can also receive non-emergency messages from the township and city. Participants already enrolled in WENS will be auto-enrolled in the Everbridge system.
