City Council President Mary Westphal chaired a Committee of the Whole meeting on Sept. 15 regarding the proposed Gateway Signage. The committee agreed on design concept 1 and the consultant team, lead by EDGE, was authorized to proceed with finalizing the design.

At Service Director Joe Shaw’s recommendation, council members authorized Mayor Mark Frye and Director of Finance Toby Schroyer to enter into a property management agreement with The Nature Conservancy to control invasive species at McNelly Park, a city-owned three-acre site at the end of Balfour Road. This agreement is at no cost to the city and will be paid for by a grant from the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
Members of council also approved Shaw’s request to grant easements for 6501 Monroe St., 5757 Main St., and 5734 Lane Dr. to Toledo Edison to complete the underground utility project in the second block of Main Street. Moving the four utility lines underground is the first stage of Phase Two of the Downtown Transportation Improvement project.
