Senior Center
levy endorsement

Members of Sylvania City Council voted unanimously to support the Five-Year, 0.50-mill levy for the Sylvania Senior Center at the Oct. 6 meeting.
Police donation
Council also approved Sylvania Police Chief Danilynn Miller’s request to donate 23 Tasers, battery packs, and other related equipment to the ProMedica Police Depart Chief Miller said while the equipment has been updated, it is still usable. “When we have equipment that can be useful, we do look locally first for those who would benefit from receiving the equipment,” she pointed out. “We were very happy that one of our community partners could use this,” Chief Miller added. Mayor Mark Frye commended Chief Miller, noting that the equipment will be of benefit to ProMedica Flower Hospital, one of the city’s great partners.
Construction update
At the request of councilman Brian McCann, Service Director Joe Shaw gave an update on the local construction projects. According to Shaw, the Downtown Transportation Improvement Project reached a milestone on Wednesday, Oct. 9, when the first block of Main Street was opened to two way traffic.
Later in the month, Main Street will be closed for three days for the installation of crosswalks and the speed table in the middle of the first block. He anticipates plantings to be done and finish work completed along with the decorative lights crossing Main Street to be in place in time for the November First Friday Art Walk.
Progress is being made for the traffic light installation on Summit and Monroe streets.
Work on the Monroe Street/US 23 interchange is on schedule with a proposed bridge closing date set for early March, 2026.
The next Sylvania City Council meeting is Oct. 20 at 7:30 pm.
