Topics of discussion include the establishment of the Fire/EMS career tech program in partnership with Sylvania Township Fire Department, Sylvania Schools, Penta Career Center, and Owens Community College. The township delegation made a request for support for the future construction of classrooms for the program. The delegation also pointed out the importance of the state recognizing the effect changes in its tax policies have on the township. Speed limit was another topic for discussion as was talk about the importance of state legislation supporting paramedicine programs. According to Johnson, everyone felt the meeting was productive.

Sylvania Township Police Chief Sarah Toth swears in new police officer Kyle Krawczyk before the Board of Township Trustees, Neal Mahoney, John Jennewine, Chair Jill Johnson, and Fiscal Officer David Simko, at the Feb. 3 regular meeting.

After swearing in Kyle Krawczyk, Sylvania Township Police Chief Sarah Toth introduced the new police officer to the Sylvania Township Trustees and the Fiscal Officer. She noted that he and new Police Officer Cody Brieschke, who was sworn in at the Jan. 6 meeting, are both Sylvania natives. The new officers will serve a one-year probationary period.


In other business, the trustees voted to approve Chief Toth’s request to purchase two 2026 Ford Utility Police Interceptors for the department’s fleet of vehicles not to exceed the budgeted cost of $118,398. The trustees also approved Chief Toth’s request to purchase a 2026 Ford F-150 Responder not to exceed the budgeted cost of $62,592 for the Community Affairs Division.
