Sylvania Township Fire Captain Jeff Bennett coordinates the May 31 training, which includes a live burn at the King Road training center behind the Sylvania Township Police Department. Members of the B Shift, wearing full fire gear, experience the challenge of fighting a live fire using the new nozzles recently acquired by the department. According to Bennett, the new nozzles provide a better stream and use less water. This training is held yearly in the spring. Bennett serves as training director for the department. Trustees approve zoning change
As there was no formal comment during the posted public hearing of the agenda item, the Sylvania Township Trustees unanimously voted in favor of a zoning change at the May 2 meeting.
This action changes the A-3 Agriculture zoning to R-4 PUD, High Density Residential Planned Development for 8.8-acres of the 57.904-acre parcel at 9330 Brint Rd. Continue reading Township Talk

In 2021, 956 people died in work zones, according to the NHTSA FARS data. Also in 2021, 108 highway worker occupational fatalities occurred in road construction sites, based on BLS data. However, the vast majority of people killed in work zone crashes are motorists and their passengers, making it all the more important for drivers to slow down and stay focused while approaching and passing through a roadway work zone. Spring brush pickup
Sylvania Township road crews begin the annual spring brush and leaf pickup on Monday, April 17. This one-time pickup service will remove piles of storm-damaged brush including branches and tree limbs.
Do not place brush or leaves in bags. Brush should not exceed six feet in length and six inches in diameter and is to be placed along the edge of the roadway in separate piles. Leaves also need to be placed in separate piles. Brush piles and/or leaf piles are not to be placed in the roadway, gutter area, or near utility poles. Also, avoid parking by either of those piles.
