Frame Chiropractic & Acupuncture moved to its a new location, 4417 N. Holland Sylvania Rd., last September. The relocation was not the only exciting event for the practice that started in Sylvania in 1989. Dr. Mickey Frame, who graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1988, handed his son Zac his diploma at Palmer in 2023. HERO program makes positive difference; reduces 911 calls

A joint venture between Springfield Township and Sylvania Township Fire departments is helping reduce the over utilization of 911 calls in the community. The HERO program, which stands for Health, Education, Resources and Outreach, was launched in 2020 as a means to prevent potential falls and accidents in resident’s homes. Two Sylvanians join The Ability Center team

TJ Buchholz of Sylvania has joined The Ability Center team. He will work closely with the Director of the Ability Center, Stuart James, to lead program operations and to oversee all consumer and assistance dogs’ programs. Buchholz received his Bachelor’s of Sociology from Northwestern College and his Master’s in Sports Management from California University. He has been with the University of Toledo Athletic Department for the past seven years serving as the Head Women’s Soccer Coach. Sunny Side Up! – Is that a real badge?

Recently I had the pleasure of attending the Sylvania Area Family Services “Shop with a Hero” event at Meijer on W. Central Ave. It is a heartwarming event where children are paired with local firefighters/EMTs and police officers to shop for the holidays. It was there that I ran into Ben Bostater. As someone who has shared the happenings of our police departments in Sylvania, I knew Ben from years of taking the young man’s photo at various police related events. He has been part of the Sylvania Explorer program through the Sylvania Police Department as long as I can remember. The program gives Sylvania School District high school students the opportunity to explore careers in criminal justice. I approached Ben, as he was shopping with a delighted youngster in the toy section at Meijer, and commented on the noticeable upgrade of the Explorer uniform. DBE dedicates tree to Her Royal Highness

The Daughters of the British Empire was thrilled for the opportunity to celebrate Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. King Charles had encouraged the planting of trees throughout the world to celebrate his mother’s 70th year on the throne. The DBE in Ohio held events to raise funds to plant a Variegated Beech Tree in Walbridge Park overlooking the Maumee River along with a commemorative plaque. “The tree was planted by the Toledo Park Service,” noted Sylvanian and 66-year member of the DBE, Pamela Schaefer. Sylvania survivor shares wisdom

Beth Ballay received a breast cancer diagnosis in August, 2015. “I happened to get the phone call while on vacation with my husband and all my children,” she recalled. “Everyone was out by the pool and I went outside and blurted it out. I was so fortunate to have everyone there. If I had to make those individual calls it would have been extremely difficult. We then had the next few days to absorb and process the information. The scariest thing about a cancer diagnosis is the feeling of not being in control and not having any idea what you are facing. Going to my Canadian home also means that I am heading to my living, breathing north star, Anne Voll-Reitzel, the woman I have called friend for as long as I can remember. Recently, she and her husband sold their cabin across the lake from ours to begin a new chapter.

Clean Up 419 beautifies Sylvania

Alex Eichner, Ben Graalman, and Connor Radkov are on a mission to clean up the 419, and they’re beginning with Sylvania. The trio, students at Sylvania Southview High School, started a club at their school after seeing a pile of trash by the road. Radkov recalled, “In April, Alex, Ben and I were driving along Centennial Road and saw a big pile of trash. A few days later we noticed it was still there. The third time we drove by the unsightly pile, we pulled over and picked it up. It was then that we noticed there was trash all the way down Centennial Road so we decided to pick that up too.
