Ryan and Katherine Harvey, their two children Ansel and Norah, and two rescue pups, Murph and Grace, have been Sylvania residents for nearly three years, relocating their family and their business from the west coast to be closer to family. “When looking at areas to live, we felt Sylvania had everything we wanted in a place to raise a family: the homes, schools, parks, sports, events, food, a small town feel and a sense of community,” Harvey said.
Nine years earlier, Harvey, a trained chef, left his job to follow his passion for healthy and delicious food. “Stocks are considered the base of all cooking, used as the base for sauces, soups, stews, glazing, and so much more. Stock-making is the first thing taught in culinary schools and kitchens around the world. And I really love the time and care that goes into making great stock. When made with integrity, stock not only tastes amazing, it provides incredible nourishment, rich in protein and collagen,” Harvey stated.
He continued, “I wanted to reinvent packaged broth so that people could experience the power of restaurant-quality broth at home. So, in late 2013, I started making and packaging my own broth, built a website with nationwide shipping, and Bare Bones was born. Katherine quit her job and began working with me full time. Around this time, bone broth and collagen became a nationwide health trend and we just so happened to be the only company shipping bone broth nationwide. Basically overnight, we went from a few sales a week to making broth seven days a week and being unable to meet demand.” The company, which started with two products sold online, has grown into a profitable business with more than 15 products available and is now headquartered in Sylvania. “Like many successful businesses, from the outside looking in, I’m sure this looks like an overnight success. But we’re nine years into this adventure and it’s been filled with high highs and low lows, and everything in between. We’re having fun and truly feel like we’re just getting started!
