Sylvania Arts has new director

Ken Dymond

Ken Dymond has been named the new Sylvania Arts Executive Director. He assumed the position in mid October.

Dymond is no stranger to the organization. He has been a volunteer for the past eight years helping with Maple & Main; Shorties U, Film Festivals and more.“I thought I was very familiar with Sylvania Arts, but I am finding there is so much more now that I’m on this side of the desk,” he shared. “I am thrilled to be a part of Sylvania Arts and to work with the amazing volunteers we have and with the Sylvania community as well.”

In addition, his previous career also helped prepare Dymond for this new role.

For the past 38 years, he had been in the classroom, teaching high school science subjects. He was active in leadership roles in his teachers’ union, including serving as president. Dymond was also involved in theatrical productions through the years.

Along with theater and film, Dymond has an interest in music. A self-proclaimed not-so-good trumpet player, he thoroughly enjoys all things musical and has attended many concerts performed by the Sylvania Community Orchestra.

As Sylvania Arts’ new executive director, Dymond is eager to bring back and expand some of the events put on hold during the pandemic. He is looking forward to reinstituting Shorties U in the beginning of next year. His hope is The pARTy, the organization’s primary fundraising event, will soon follow.

Dymond’s second goal is to grow the number of community volunteers helping with Sylvania Arts’ events and projects. “Everything we do is made possible by the wonderful people helping behind the scenes,” he stated. “My goal is to raise awareness of Sylvania Arts in the community and encourage more people to join us.”
