Township talk…

The Sylvania Board of Township Trustees approved the appointment of Dave France as the township’s representative to the Sylvania Area Joint Recreation Board at the Dec. 5 meeting for a three-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2024.
Township Administrator Oliver Turner’s request to approve a resolution to support and authorize the submission of an EPA Market Development Grant, not to exceed $200,000, on behalf of Kripke Enterprises was approved. There is no match cost to the township.
Variance granted
In addition, the trustees approved a variance to accommodate the new pre-fabricated training tower to be built behind Fire Station #64. They also authorized Turner’s request to apply for an Ohio EPA Targeted Brownfield Assistance grant to help fund cleanup of the Silica Road property recently acquired for the road department.
Zoning change approved
Following a public hearing, the trustees voted to approve the zoning change from R-A, low density residential to C-2, general commercial for three parcels at 3203 Fairbanks Ave.
The applicant, SDT 1 Properties, owner of the three parcels, requested the change to extend the parking lot that abuts the subject property to the south. The zoning change had been approved by the Lucas County Plan Commission and the Sylvania Township zoning staff as the intended use is compatible with the township’s land use plan.
Four neighboring property owners spoke in opposition to the zoning change, citing concerns about decreasing property values because of the proposed development and intrusion of commercial zoning into a residential area.
