The Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities Superintendent Michele Myerholrz receives a city of Sylvania Proclamation from Mayor Craig Stough declaring March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month at the March 4 City Council meeting.

Sylvania City Council approved Service Deputy Director Joe Shaw’s request to accept the Feller Finch & Associates’ bid of $21,400 for professional engineering and design services for the Silica Drive, Summit Street, Maplewood Avenue, and Erie Street resurfacing project. This will be done in collaboration with Lucas County Engineer’s Office resurfacing project on Angola, Frankfort, and McCord roads.
American Structurepoint’s construction management services proposal of $46,356 for the McCord Road resurfacing and $72,208 for Oakland Court improvement projects were accepted. According to Shaw, the McCord project is anticipated to take three to four weeks for completion while the Oakland Court project, scheduled to begin in mid August, will take approximately 8 to 10 weeks.

Shaw was also authorized to acquire a temporary construction easement of 1.85 acres for $101,215 from Crestview of Ohio/ProMedica Continuing Care Services Corporation for the reconfiguring of the ProMedica Flower Hospital entrance road, which will align with Ravine Drive.
In other business, council approved creating an additional Deputy Director 1 position. The new position is temporary and will allow staff the necessary overlap to ensure a smooth transition upon Service Director Kevin Aller’s retirement.
City Council approved Shaw’s request for the city to enter a Joint Cooperation Agreement with Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District for the Plummer Pool Improvement. Mayor Stough noted that the city has made a commitment to renovate the Plummer Pool bath house and pumping and filtration system as part of an agreement with Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District.
Shaw’s request to purchase a 2025 Ford Explorer for $46,595.94 for the Sylvania Police Department was granted.
Council gave its okay to amend the city’s agreement with Sylvania Compost & Recycling to provide green yard waste drop-off from September 2024 to September 2026.
Lourdes University’s request for a banner congratulating graduates to fly on Main Street was approved.
Council also approved the resolution to expand Joint Economic Development District with Sylvania Township for the new development on Central Avenue in front of the former Giant Eagle property. The city will realize 25 percent and the township will realize 75 percent of the tax revenue from the new development. A public hearing has been set for April 15 at 7:15 pm to accept public comment.
