New City Council member
Shawn Murphy was sworn in as a Sylvania City Council member at the Jan. 21 meeting. He fills the seat vacated by Mark Frye when he assumed the position of mayor the first of this year. Murphy was selected from a field of six candidates by City Council in three special meetings. Murphy, a Bowling Green State University graduate, owns Advance Advertising. He and his wife, Cari, are parents of three children Caitlyn, Haleigh and Connor.
New equipment
In other business, Service Director Joe Shaw’s recommendations to acquire a salt dome wheel loader for $155,150, including the trade-in of old equipment, and an asphalt paving roller for $43,775 for the Streets Department from Buck & Knobby Equipment Company were approved. His requests to purchase a 2024 Grand Cherokee Laredo for $44,000 for the Sewer & Water Department for utility locating purposes from Grogan’s Towne Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram and a Vermeer mini skid steer for $37,500 for the Parks & Forestry Department from Vermeer All Roads in Findlay were also approved.
Requests for bids
Shaw also asked and was given approval to advertise for bids on the Monroe-Main-Summit streets Traffic Signal Improvement Project and the Centennial Road Sanitary Sewer Extension Project.
