Locally owned family business has grown to three locations

Shay’s Carpet is celebrating 36 years in business serving Sylvania, Toledo, and the surrounding areas.
Joe Shay Sr. started the business in 1989 selling carpeting out of the back of his traveling carpet van. He had a saying then which became his motto,“We don’t want all the business … just yours,” and he still uses it today. This has served him well as the business has grown to include three stores located at Holland Sylvania Road, Mayberry Square, and the newest one on Monroe Street near Whiteford Road.
The stores are run by Joe Shay Sr., his wife, Robin, and their sons Joe Jr. and Bobby. Joe and Robin Shay can be found primarily at the 1122 N. Holland Sylvania Rd. store; Joe Shay Jr. heads up the 8261 Mayberry Square store, while Bobby Shay is at the 5434 Monroe St. location.
What started as just a carpet business has grown to be a full-fledged flooring business. “We try to cater to our customer base and what trends they are looking for. We also bring in new product lines all the time,” the Shays reported.
All three stores carry a wide selection of carpet, waterproof vinyl, laminate, real wood, and cork flooring. The selection at each store varies quite a bit to give buyers more options. Customers frequently visit all three stores to see everything available and pick up samples. Those samples can be returned at any of the stores.

The Shays also offer a shop-at-home service where samples can be brought to clients’ homes.

For the do-it-yourselfers, Shays does sell products without installation. However, consumers choosing to have flooring installed will receive professional installations from the Shay’s teams.
Shoppers are invited to stop in at the three stores and save money during the spring flooring sale. Free estimates are offered anytime, day or evening and on weekends.
All three Shay’s Carpet locations are open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. The Holland Sylvania Road store is also open Sunday from 12 to 4 pm.
