Marshall Childcare Center to offer summer camp, year-round preschool

The new Marshall Childcare Center’s primary grade teacher Elizabeth Richmond introduces prospective summer camper Calleigh Shaffer to some of the many activities planned while her grandfather, Brian Yeager learns about the program from Sylvania Community Services Preschool Director Catherine Hughes and Executive Director Maria Gagnon.

Sylvania Community Services’ new Marshall Childcare Center, 5440 Marshall Rd. in Sylvania, opens June 2 with a summer camp for children entering first to sixth grade for fall 2025. “We have created an activity-based program that is both fun and educational,” noted SCS Preschool Administrator Catherine Hughes. “We will also have field trips,” she added.
In addition to the summer camp program, the center will provide care for ages 2.5 (must be potty-trained) to 12 years. Year-round preschool, half-day school-year preschool, and for Hill View students before and after school care will be offered as well. The new center will also provide services for children when classes are canceled because of parent conferences and teacher workdays.
The new Marshall Child Care Center, housed within the Sylvania Area Family Services building, will be open for drop-in visits May 19, 20, and 21 from 7 am to 5 pm.
Full and part-time rates are available, and private pay and Ohio Department of Job and Family Services will be accepted. Prospective families can learn more and fill out an interest form at sylvaniacommunityservices.org/marshall.
“This program is a collaboration between SCS and SAFS,” noted Sylvania Community Services Executive Director Maria Gagnon. “Shortly after I joined SCS, I met with Sylvania Area Family Services Executive Director Dottie Segur. We had known each other for quite some time, and I was eager to catch up with her. Over coffee, we talked about our organizations and the needs each of us had. Dottie mentioned that her mission included programming for children, which she noted was not happening. I said SCS wanted to expand its preschool and childcare program. It did not take us very long to realize we could help each other’s organizations, and the idea for the Marshall Childcare Center was born.”
Marshall Childcare joins Sylvania Community Services’ other childcare programs in falling under the umbrella of Sylvania Childcare. The other programs include Woodrow Preschool, rated a Gold Star from the State of Ohio Step Up to Quality Child Care Rating System; Gold Star-rated Northview Preschool, in partnership with Sylvania Schools.
