City beat …

Molly Thompson of Perrysburg Energy addressed Sylvania Mayor Mark Frye, members of Sylvania City Council, and the administrative staff at the June 16 City Council meeting on behalf of the Sisters of St. Francis who wish to install carport solar panels in two of the parking lots on the Lourdes University campus. Because this action requires a Special Use Permit, council referred the request to the Planning Commission for review and their recommendation. They also set a public hearing date of Sept. 2 at 7 pm.
Change orders
Sylvania City Council approved Safety Service Director Joe Shaw’s recommendation for an additional $1,248 to Freedom Roofing, Windows and Siding LLC for an overrun for  decking on the three pumping stations roof replacement. According to Shaw, the original contract included a quantity of 1,000 square feet of decking replacement; however, the amount installed was 1,312 square feet. Those pumping station locations are 5843 Monroe St., 6828 Maplewood Ave., and 4990 Main St.
Council also approved Shaw’s proposal for a final change order of $1,485 to Geddis Paving for seeding and mulching following the Main Street between Convent Boulevard and the Ten Mile Creek, pavement reconstruction. According to Shaw, the seeding and mulching work was deferred to this spring due to weather.
Easement
Shaw’s request to acquire the necessary drainage easement for $1,136 from Baumgartner LLC, the owners of the Fricker’s property at 6339 Monroe St., was approved. As the Service Department’s field review determined that a portion of the storm sewer needed repair, Shaw’s request to accept Ohio Excavating’s $42,900 proposal to replace 66 feet of storm sewer and one catch basin was granted.
Obsolete equipment
In other business, Council voted in favor of Shaw’s recommendation to place obsolete equipment, including a 1989  leaf loader, a 20-plus-year-old forklift aerial platform attachment, and a 2007 and a 2009 plow truck, along with old signage from city parks, on GovDeals.com for sale.
The signs are available for auction through Tuesday July 8 at 7 pm.
