Sylvania Mayor Mark Frye presents a proclamation to Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities Superintendent, Michele Myerholtz.

At the March 16 meeting of Sylvania City Council, Mayor Mark Frye presented Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities Superintendent, Michele Myerholtz, with a proclamation designating March 2026 as “Developmental Disabilities Awareness” month in the city of Sylvania.


New purchases

In other business, council members approved city of Sylvania Service Director Joe Shaw’s recommendation to accept Motorola Solutions’ $27,131.58 proposal for six new portable radios for the Police Department.

Council members also approved Shaw’s request to purchase 2,000 tons of roadway de-icing salt from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s cooperative materials purchase program, replacing what was used this past winter. Shaw stated the historical cost over the last 10 years has averaged around $50/ton.

Proposals accepted

Shaw’s recommendation to hire Colliers Engineering & Design for two projects was approved. The proposals include $7,900 for professional engineering services for the King Road/Sylvan Towne Drive/Cougar Lane Traffic Signal Optimization Project and the $129,200 proposal for professional engineering services for the Alexis Road and Stewart Road Waterline Improvements Project.

Shaw was given the go-ahead to advertise for bids for construction beginning in July for Phase 2 of the Downtown Transportation Improvement Project.

Appointments

City Council Members confirmed Mayor Frye’s Tree Commission appointment of Beth Youngpeter to a term ending Dec. 31, 2028, and Kevin McGreevy for a term ending Dec. 31, 2027.


The next Sylvania City Council meeting will be held April 6 at 6:30 pm.
