Spring brush pickup


Township Board of Trustees authorized Road Superintendent Rob Nash to accept Batanian Tree Service’s $624.06-an-hour proposal for the 2026 spring and fall brush household pickup, which begins April 13. Township crews will start in Grid 1 and 2 and work in order and three crews from Batanian/Minor Tree Service will be start in 8, 9 and 10. Leaf crews will start in Grid 1 and 2 and work in numerical order to Grid 23.


Spring cleanup service is a one-time event designed to remove storm-damaged brush and leaves, including branches and tree limbs. Limbs must be no longer than six feet in length and no thicker than six inches in diameter.


Residents are asked to place their storm-damaged brush and leaves along the roadway’s edge in separate piles—not in the roadway or gutter.


Tree removal is not included.


New hire


Sylvania Township Fire Chief Chris Nye was given approval to hire a full-time firefighter/paramedic, Jessica Mowrey, to fulfill the vacancy on the department. She will have a one-year probationary period from the effective date of hire.

Citizen of the Year


The Toledo/Sylvania Elks outgoing Exalted Ruler Sam Aossey, right, presents the Citizen of the Year award to Sylvania Township Police Chief Sarah Toth on March 21. She was selected not just for her current position leading area officers, but for her entire career dedicated to the community and its protection. ‘Chief Toth has been passionate from the first day of her career. She has taught thousands of our children through the DARE program, educating them on the dangers of drug abuse. Her career has also included coordinating Sylvania Township Safety Town for kindergarten children,’ Aossey noted.
