Accolades
Sylvania Township and Gerken Paving Inc. were recognized April 1 by Flexible Pavements of Ohio for excellence in asphalt pavement construction on the Corey Road widening and resurfacing project.
“Gerken Paving was a great partner on this project,” Sylvania Township Road Superintendent Rob Nash said. “The company has been awarded many of our resurfacing projects over the last 25 years and has always met or exceeded our expectations.”
Flexible Pavements of Ohio represents the asphalt paving industry at the federal, state, and local levels and supports education and outreach efforts aimed at improving construction quality.
Appeal approved
Members of the Board of Zoning Appeals voted to grant an exception for the sidewalk requirements for Sunset Village’s Phase V project fronting Allen Road.
Per Section 1106 of the Sylvania Township Zoning Resolution, the development and redevelopment of properties within the Township shall require the installation of sidewalks on all sides of the property that abut a highway, street, or roadway. Section 1106(C) allows for an exception to the sidewalk requirement from the Board of Zoning Appeals if the adjacent properties do not have sidewalks. However, if sidewalks are constructed on either adjacent property, the exception is revoked, and sidewalks must be constructed within 180 days.
