A 69-year-old female Mental Health Counselor and married mother of four recently started an investigational precision therapy cancer drug for progressive metastatic lymphoma which had previously failed standard medical treatment. Her prognosis was poor. However, recent image evaluation after starting experimental treatment demonstrated robust response with management at the Taylor Cancer Research Center (TCRC). Within eight weeks of starting the precision experimental treatment, significant reduction in size of multiple cancer lesions were observed achieving status of partial response. Later, with continued treatment of a couple more months, her first cancer lesion completely disappeared and over 90 percent of the bulk of other disease shrunk away. This participant shared, “I was discouraged and scared when my cancer returned after treatment with the best standard treatment, rituximab. Although I was nervous waiting for my first scans after starting the clinical trial, I was relieved and grateful to see the cancer shrinking—and now some of the lesions are beginning to disappear. I’m excited to be part of a research study that could help not only me, but others as well. The staff have been incredibly supportive and caring, and having a team I can count on has made a real difference in my healing.”
TCRC currently has 29 experimental precision therapies being studied involving multiple cancer types and stages of disease. “We are very pleased to have observed this participant’s response to one of our new experimental treatments, particularly given lack of any observed significant toxic effect,” stated John Nemunaitis, MD, Chief Scientific Officer of TCRC. The participant is continuing experimental treatment at TCRC.
