Mayor’s Message – Sylvania River Trail/Harroun Road crossing lights

The Sylvania River Trail/Harroun Road crossing light is now installed and should be energized by Toledo Edison and activated by the contractor soon.

The pedestrian crossing has been a safety concern since Phase 2 of the River Trail opened a few years ago. Harroun Road is often busy with traffic and is four lanes wide, so crossing can be hazardous. The new crossing light will improve pedestrian safety.

Although funded and approved more than a year ago, the construction has been delayed by pandemic-driven supply chain problems. The actual traffic lights were delivered earlier in the year, but the fabrication and delivery of the overhead poles took months longer than anticipated. Sylvania police chief retires after 28 years; new chief named

Sylvania Police Chief Rick Schnoor turned over his office to fellow officer, Capt. Danilynn Miller, who was named the new police chief during the Sept. 6 Sylvania City Council meeting.

After more than 28 years on the force, Schnoor said, “This is a good time for me to leave. We are very fortunate to be fully staffed. We have the support from the city administration and tons of support from the community. Mayor’s Message – Downtown Streetscape Planning Underway

Downtown Sylvania is continuing to be a success story for our community. There are new businesses, more activity and more growth. To plan and continue downtown improvements, the City of Sylvania has begun a 12 to 18 month long design phase to receive public input and ideas, and envision a new streetscape and expansion of the downtown.

The first public input session was held August 24th in City Council Chambers. The session was well attended and many comments and ideas were received. The design consultants are reviewing this input and incorporating it onto the first draft of an improvement plan for presentation at the next public meeting in January.
