Southview educator Brandi Shepard prepares supplies for distribution for Sylvania School District students.

Sylvania Area Family Services will host its Back 2 School backpack and school supply distribution event on Aug. 6 at SAFS, 5440 Marshall Rd.

Students who are registered with the Sylvania School District and have pre-registered with the SAFS will be eligible to receive a backpack filled with school supplies. Families may come into the facility and enjoy hotdogs, ice cream and refreshments as students select a preassembled backpack appropriate for their age.

Brandi Shepard, an educator at Southview High School, has been volunteering her time, talent and supplies for the event. She stated, “Providing school supplies for children in need allows parents to use that money toward rent, food and other necessities. I personally focus on providing materials for the middle and high school students. So often, these students are forgotten, whether it be the holidays or in this case, school supplies. We must remember, they are still kids who want to begin the school year with the tools they need.”

Donations may be dropped of at SAFS through Aug. 3.
