Sylvania Township Administrator Oliver Turner shares the news with Township Trustee Neal Mahoney and Sylvania Township Police Deputy Chief James W. Rettig that the township has been named the Employers Association’s Outstanding Member of the Year. This award is given annually to a member who provides an excellent work environment for employees; supports and serves the northwest Ohio community; and supports the Employees Association’s programs and services.‘We certainly appreciate this award. It is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the entire team and our focus on public service,’ notes Turner The Employers’ Association serves regional employers in their efforts to build great cultures by providing Human Resource Management Information and Consulting, Training and Development and Workplace Wellness.There are over 700 organizations that are members of EA.

Zoning Appeals Board
At the June 5 Board of Zoning Appeals meeting, members Don Miller, Zach Mercer, and Yuri Osterhout approved a request from Michael Tanner, president of Brint Electric, for an amendment to the Conditional Use Permit granted on Jan. 9 for 7829 W. Central Ave. Tanner requested a variance for the permit to use asphalt grindings for a temporary storage lot rather than asphalt or concrete. According to Tanner, a long-term plan is being developed for the site.
In other business, the board also approved a variance from a five-foot landscape strip to a zero-foot landscape strip along the south property line and another variance from a five-foot landscape strip to a zero-foot landscape strip along the north property line of the former Giant Eagle parking area at 6928 W. Central Ave.
Board of Trustees
At the regular June 6 meeting of the Sylvania Township Board of Trustees, a request was presented to change the zoning from C-4, professional/business/office to C-2, general commercial for the property at 4022 N. Holland Sylvania Rd. to accommodate a commissary kitchen for a local barbecue restaurant owner and caterer. Following a public hearing, that request was denied.
