Township talk …

The Sylvania Township Trustees approved the appointment of Lynette Reichle as an alternate member of the Board of Zoning Appeals. She will fill the vacancy created when Tony Malik was appointed to the board to fill the seat of Tim Schlachter, who resigned when he and his family moved out of the township. Reichle’s term is through Dec. 31, 2027.
An amendment to the Otterbein Sunset Village’s Planned Urban Development was approved by the trustees for the construction of 25 additional villa units.
LITE Funding
The trustees approved Roads Superintendent Rob Nash’s request to use TARTA’s 2025 Local Investment in Transit Enhancements funding of $90,000 for Sylvania Township to help fund the township’s Ohio Public Works Road Improvement Project Phase 2. According to Nash, Gerken Paving Inc. was awarded the project, which includes the widening and resurfacing of Corey Road between Whiteford Road and Monroe Street, along with resurfacing of various subdivision roads along its corridor. The total estimated cost of the project is $1,477,000.
TARTA’s Local Investment in Transit Enhancements Funding, or LITE, is the funding source generated when a one-half percent sales and use tax replaced the 2.5 mill property tax. A portion of these funds is distributed to the political jurisdictions served by TARTA to be used for public infrastructure.
New hires
Nash was also given authority to offer conditional employment to Daniel Gibson as assistant foreman.
The trustees authorized Sylvania Township Police Chief Sarah Toth to hire Michael Dulbs, James Knallay, and Cassius Williams.
The three had been on the certified eligibility list. They begin a two-week departmental orientation June 2.
