Sylvania Township Board of Trustees authorized Road Supervisor Rob Nash to enter into a contract for 2025 leaf pickup with A&J Landscape, the lowest bidder for the project. Nash was also given the go-ahead to solicit bids for a three-year contract for the annual fall household pickup service. According to Nash, the current contract expires following the 2025 pickup scheduled for the first week following Labor Day.
The trustees also authorized Sylvania Township Administrator Oliver Turner to apply for Ohio Public Works Commission State Capital Improvement funds for 2027 road improvement projects, including the Nantucket/Pembridge Woods subdivision, Monroe Street, and other roads.
New hires
The trustees approved Nash’s request to offer conditional employment to Toby Forman and Mike Hildreth as mechanics pending successful completion of post-offer testing.
Sylvania Township Fire Chief Chris Nye was given approval to hire firefighter/paramedic Jack Koerper.
In other business, the Sylvania Township Board of Trustees and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local No. 2243 have reached an agreement allowing lateral entry fire fighters/paramedics to transfer accrued sick leave from their most recent qualified public employer, which helps to enhance recruitment and retention efforts within the Sylvania Township Fire/EMS Department.
Fiscal Officer David Simko presented the June fiscal report to the Board of Trustees. He noted that revenue for the first half of 2025 is over budget, and expenditures are below budget.
BZA notes
Members of the Sylvania Township Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously approved the request for an exception for temporary housing for Stephanie and Andrew Jurski, 4507 Indian Ridge Rd.
Major flooding rendered their 2000-square-foot home uninhabitable, and they have been unable to find temporary housing due to their two large dogs. The vote of board members permits the Jurski family to live in a Washovi singlewide HUD-approved mobile home on their property up to 12 months while their home is renovated.
