Township talk …

Scarlet Oak Drive resident Doug Allen appeared at the Aug. 19 meeting to inform the Sylvania Township Trustees about a parking issue on his street. In response to that testimony and similar complaints, the trustees authorized Road Superintendent Rob Nash to install no parking signs in the vicinity of 2745 Scarlet Oak Dr.
The trustees gave Zoning Manager Daryl Graus authorization to file legal action against the property owner at 3850 Pepperwood. Ct., who is in violation of zoning regulations. The property owner has been properly notified of the violation and has not corrected the situation within the allotted time.
At Sylvania Township Fire Chief Chris Nye’s recommendation, the trustees gave their approval to hire two full-time firefighter/paramedics, Brok Ekleberry and Todd Sanford, to fill vacancies created by retirements. This hire fulfills the department’s pledge to bring the staffing number to 72 in 2025.
In other business, the resolution to approve amendments to the regional community health district merger agreement was tabled for the Sept. 2 board of trustees’ meeting.
Township Administrator Oliver Turner and Kent Buehrer, president of Buehrer Group architects and engineers, gave a presentation of the proposed Road and Service Department facility to be built on the Silica Road property that the township acquired from Lucas County. In addition to highlighting building plans, financing options were also discussed.
