New officers introduced
Sylvania Township Police Chief Sarah Toth introduced four officers who recently joined the department. Kevin Cook, Rae Distel, Olivia Miller, and Tiahna Mosley met Township Trustees at the regular meeting Jan. 7.
Firefighters/Paramedics hired
The trustees authorized Sylvania Township Fire Chief Chris Nye to hire Firefighters/Paramedics Ferras Hebaichi and Marc Tanner effective Jan. 27 to fill the two vacancies within the department. Both are State of Ohio Certified Paramedics. Tanner is a lateral transfer from the Toledo Fire & Rescue Department where he spent 2.5 years. He is also a certified police officer and holds and Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. Hebaichi is a US Army Veteran who was looking for a career change and chose Fire-EMS. Ferras spent a good deal of his required paramedic training field internship ride time with Sylvania Fire-EMS prior to graduating. Ferras will be leaving for his 10 week fire training at the Ohio Fire Academy in Reynoldsburg on Feb. 18. Once completed he will be assigned to a shift to begin his new career.
Road work agreement
Road Superintendent Rob Nash’s request to enter into a joint cooperative agreement with Lucas County for 2026 Ohio Public Works Commission projects was approved by the trustees. Those projects include improvements to Bonsels Parkway, Goodhue Drive, Waldmar Road, Romaker Road, Van Fleet Parkway, Elmont Road, Homan Drive, Knoll Avenue, Maple Creek Boulevard, Kylie Court, St. Christine Court, Arbor Mist Court, Clear Creek Boulevard and Whiteford Road.
Corey Road resurfacing
According to Sylvania Township’s Roads and Service Superintendent Rob Nash, Phase II of the 2024 OPWC project to resurface Corey Road was postponed last year when Toledo Edison was unable to remove the electric poles in the time needed to complete the project. That resurfacing project will take place in early spring with an anticipated October completion date.
Lighting petition, zoning change approved
Following public hearings, the trustees approved the street lighting petition for Eagle Creek Plat II. A zoning change from C-2 general commercial to R-A, low density residential for the property at 4829 Sadalia Rd. was also approved.
