New Sylvania Township Police Officers Jacob Harrigan and Joshua Mohr meet the Sylvania Township Trustees

Sylvania Township Police Chief Sarah Toth administered the oath of office to two new police officers, Jacob Harrigan and Joshua Mohr, during the Sylvania Township Trustees meeting Sept. 1. The additions bring the township’s active police force to 43 officers.


In other action, trustees approved a request from Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Bennett for additional professional services from Colliers Engineering & Design for improvements at Fire Station No. 4. The cost is not to exceed $35,000.
The proposal includes continued project coordination, support for industrial stormwater discharge permitting, and updates to stormwater reports.
Sylvania Township Fire Chief Chris Nye announced his retirement, effective March 19, 2027.

The Sylvania Township Trustees subsequently approved two resolutions appointing Bennett as auxiliary fire chief and fire chief, upon Nye’s retirement, and Training and Safety Captain Mike Behan as assistant fire chief.
Following the legislative action, Bennett’s wife, Audra, placed the official pin signifying his new rank on his uniform. Behan’s wife, Jen, similarly pinned her husband’s new rank.
New TARTA representative appointed
Township Administrator Oliver Turner told trustees that Joel Beren, the township’s current representative on the Toledo Area Regional Transportation Authority board, plans to conclude his service when his term ends Oct. 1. The trustees appointed Ben Malczewski to represent the township on the TARTA board. His term will begin Oct. 1 and run through Sept. 30, 2029.
The next Board of Sylvania Township Trustees is set for Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 5 pm.
